Winnsboro, LA is about to make History

On June 10th 2011, Winnsboro, LA, will never be the same as it host their first featured gospel stage play performance "The Lawd Done Sent Me A Man" at the Princess Theater for an evening of celebration and entertainment. Prior to closing its doors in the early 80's, the facility had segregated seating along with separate entrances for the African American attendees. The community since then has been continuously engaged in rebuilding race relations for a better Winnsboro and the night of June 10th will be a historical night to remember.

The relationship in the community of Winnsboro, LA which once had deep rooted racial tension that stems back to the early 80's, is changing the course of its history to become one of the most sought after small town cities with its ideas of new development and infrastructure on the horizon to promote new businesses relocating to their city. This change is quite evident as the city elected its first African American Mayor on July 1st 2009, Honorable Mayor Jackie Johnson.

Listen to what a few members of the community are saying:
Gene Thomas - Princess Theater Executive Director says,
"The community has come together as a whole and "I'm excited about the play coming to town because we welcome diversity at the theater."

Suzan Michelle Ross a Louisiana native says,
"I remember going to the theater with my white classmates as a child and whites would sit downstairs and the blacks would have to go upstairs."

Mayor Jackie Johnson says,
'it is another way to end the racial division that has plagued the theater for decades and these are the type of things the city should embrace to bring more revenue and enhance the quality of living.'
