Grants Wishes Inc. Raises $2,500 at Womens Luncheon Benefiting Children Who Have Relapsed With Cancer
Grants Wishes Inc., a nonprofit organization, successfully raised enough money to grant a wish for a Southern California child battling cancer.
Online, May 5, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Granting a wish to a child enduring the hardship of cancer treatment costs $2,000. It's a small price to pay when compared to the first happy moment on that child's face since being told their cancer was back. Grants Wishes Inc., a nonprofit organization, hosted a women's "Mad Hatter Tea Party" luncheon on Saturday, May 1 in Orange. Approximately 30 women came together to benefit Southern California children who have relapsed with cancer.
Through the support of sponsors, donations and attendees, Grants Wishes raised $2,500 for the cause. Attendees were treated to live music, specialty teas, and a fabulous lunch with wine sponsored by Galleano Winery. The silent auction featured unique items including: a weekend stay at La Fonda Resort and Spa in Rosarito, Mexico; a membership to Black Gold Golf Club in Yorba Linda; and a luxurious day at Glen Ivy Day Spa in Brea.
Grants Wishes mission is to grant the second wishes to qualified pediatric oncology patient at Children's Hospital of Orange County, Miller Children's in Long Beach, Loma Linda University Children's Hospital and Rady Children's Hospital in San Diego.
"These children face special challenges and often desperately need the mental and emotional boost that a second wish can provide. Difficult and painful treatments take a toll on a child's emotional state and sometimes receiving a wish is just what it takes to get them through an especially rough time," said Grants Wishes founder Lori Sullivan.
Since established in 2005, the Orange County-based organization has granted more than 130 wishes. Primarily operating in Southern California, Grants Wishes has recently been contacted to help U.C. Davis Children's Hospital in Sacramento. The organization hopes to expand further in the coming years.
