Grauer School Student Wins Golf Tournament

Encinitas, CA--Grauer School eighth grade exchange student Sergio Ibarra won first place at the North County Junior Golf Association Wiebe Family tournament on Friday, February 28 at the Reidy Creek Golf Course in Escondido.

Encinitas, CA -- Grauer School eighth grade exchange student Sergio Ibarra won first place with a score of 60 in the North County Junior Golf Association Wiebe Family tournament on Friday, February 28, 2010, at the Reidy Creek Golf Course in Escondido. What makes this win so extraordinary is Ibarra took the title as a 14-year-old eighth grader in a tournament at the high school division, and excelled in other categories such as most pars and birdies. Ibarra, a resident of Los Mochis, Mexico, is staying with Grauer School Golf Team Parent Coach Burt Guetz and his family, while on a student exchange program with The Grauer School.

According to Ibarra, "I am very grateful to my local family for helping me with everything I need. I have received good instruction as a member of the Grauer School Golf Team from Mr. Guetz and pro Peter Beams. I like this sport because it is a family sport and I can also play with friends. The most exciting part of playing in this tournament was when I made the last put for a birdie!" Ibarra plans to participate in several additional tournaments this spring and aspires to improve on his score.

The Reidy Creek Golf Course where the Wiebe Family tournament was held is a challenging, par-54 Executive golf course, which measures 2,582 yards from the back trees with unique par-3 holes. The 18-hole course plays through a natural valley, providing a rolling terrain that ensures no two holes are alike. To prepare for tournament play at this and other challenging courses, Ibarra and the Grauer School Golf Team attend lessons at La Costa Resort and Spa every Monday with golf pro Peter Beams and they usually play nine holes every Wednesday with Grauer School Golf Team Faculty Coach, Summer Vicknair, at Lomas Santa Fe Country Club. The Wiebe Family tournament is named after professional golfer Mark Wiebe, a former PGA Tour player who currently competes on the Champions Tour.

The Grauer School is located at 1500 South El Camino Real in Encinitas and scholarships are available. The Grauer School Golf Team is an integral component of the Athletic Department at the school that also offers an Independent Studies Program for professional high school athletes.
