Online, July 28, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Great Burial Reef founder and CEO Jason B. Rew unveiled the "Living Urn" today, the world's first and only permanent ocean burial urn that protects the cremated remains of an individual while fostering life for generations. The 60 pound Living Urn, cast from 100% natural concrete, has a unique Care Chamber into which the cremated remains of an individual are sealed.
"What sets the Living Urn apart from any other cremation urn," says Rew, a pioneer in the green burial movement since 1999, "is that it addresses four critical values and benefits of our product portfolio: The Living Urn is affordable, environmental, can be placed without anyone's assistance, and is genuinely 'cool.'" The Living Urn can be purchased on the Great Burial Reef website, and can be shipped directly to the family's front door. Priced at $1,000, the package includes the patent-pending Living Urn, Heart Seal, two Sharpie markers that can be used to inscribe farewell messages, and instructional documentation, all packaged in a recycled, reusable carton that makes traveling with the Living Urn easy.
Andrew Whitaker, Great Burial Reef Vice President, explains how the process works. "Once the family seals their loved one's remains into the urn, it can be placed in any of the world's oceans, or alternatively in private freshwater or on private land, making it possible for the family to celebrate the life of their loved one any way, anywhere, and at any time they wish to do so... on their own terms."
Speaking to the "green" aspect of Great Burial Reef, Rew said, "Being green is doing less harm to the planet today than you did yesterday. There are other products that do that, but our reefs do far more - they create life wherever they are placed. Each burial reef we sell adds critically needed habitat to what is arguably the most diverse and endangered ecosystem on the planet - the coral reef."
The Living Urn meets another critical need. Whitaker explained, "A large percentage of our calls are from families who have 'stored' their loved one's cremated remains because they weren't sure what to do with them. The Living Urn gives them an affordable way to permanently and safely honor their loved one and create the legacy of new life in the process."
