Green Planet's Growing System Cuts Water Use 90+% Introducing the Future of Food™

Healing the Earth, Inc., a subsidiary of Tempe, Arizona based Green Planet Group, Inc.(PINKSHEETS: GNPG) is currently developing a revolutionary growing system to dramatically reduce the amount of water required to grow organic produce for human consumption as well as food for farm animals.  The Company is constructing a “Proof of Concept” installation of the growing system on the site of a dairy farm in Congress, Arizona.  Ed Lonergan, CEO of Green Planet Group, notes that the Company’s growing system reduces water consumption by more than 90% compared to conventional field grown cultivation.

Across the Country and around the world, drought conditions are in the news.  Agricultural water, used in the production of food and fiber, consumes an average of 70% of all the fresh water drawn from rivers and groundwater.  Since last year, California cattle ranchers and dairy farmers have cut herds by 20% in some areas while the California Farm Water Coalition reported that growers idled 500,000 acres of irrigated land costing an estimated $1.7 billion in lost production with an overall hit of $5 billion to the state’s economy.  Recently, USA Today reported record-breaking droughts on four continents from California to Brazil, South Africa, and North Korea resulting in shortages in food and potable water around the world.  Popular Science has reported nearly 2,000 water conflicts around the globe from 1990 to 2008.  International incidents related to shared river basins may very well erupt into armed confrontations.   Water shortage is one of the World’s greatest headaches.

Reducing agricultural water use is just one of the benefits of the Healing the Earth growing system.  The Company has registered several trademarks with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office to describe the system and its benefits:

  • Fast Track Farming™ describes the growing system’s capacity to produce a wide range of vegetables, fruits, fodder or flowers in a fraction of the time required in conventional cultivation.
  • Food on Demand™ describes the system’s flexibility to adjust output of product to demand, eliminating glut/shortage issues. The grower can produce just enough food to meet demand eliminating spoilage and waste.
  • Food at the Point of Consumption™ describes the growing system’s universal capability for installation in population centers around the globe, regardless of climate, significantly reducing transportation costs, petroleum-based fuel use and further reducing food waste.

National Geographic’s May 2014 issue cover story, “The New Food Revolution,” focused on the need for food today and into the future.  The article projects that by 2050 a global population of nine billion will require a doubling of the crops currently grown.  A team of scientists led by Dr. Jonathan Foley, now Executive Director of the California Academy of Sciences, put forth the question, “How can the world double the availability of food while simultaneously cutting the environmental harm caused by agriculture?”

Lonergan stated, “Our growing system is a part of the answer to Dr. Foley’s question and will become an integral part of the new food technology necessary to produce the food necessary to feed the world’s future population.   Healing the Earth™ is our brand name because that is precisely what we will do with our growing system.  And, we will begin to fulfill this promise quickly as we initiate production of our revolutionary commercial organic growing systems before the end of this year.    Imagine the reduction in our carbon footprint when food is grown onsite, be that on the dairy farm or adjacent to the supermarkets’ distribution centers.  Our 90+% reduction in water consumption can eliminate or significantly reduce water access conflicts such as those in California and around the world.  And, we will increase food production by 300% over traditional methods of cultivation.  That’s why we believe our growing system truly is The Future of Food™.”
