Greenshield Strengthens Information Security

Greenshield Financial Services is taking steps to add extra layers to its information security, protecting clients and raising the industry security standards.

Allen, Texas (May 4, 2010) - When clients trust Greenshield Financial Services with their debt relief hopes, they trust Greenshield with a wealth of information, both personal and financial.

As Greenshield teaches our clients how to get out of debt, we understand our obligation to keep one hawk eye on protecting their personal information.

To honor this trust and to secure our client information, Greenshield is adding extra layers to its information security policies and procedures, particularly in regard to its information technology. The effort will move Greenshield to the highest levels of information security among debt settlement companies. It will protect clients' personal and financial information, therefore reducing the possibility of identity theft.

"The information security upgrades are important because they increase the clients' trust," said Kylie Davis, Greenshield Information Security Officer.

The Greenshield security policy change gives the company a head start on compliance with the Gramm-Bliley-Leech Act and the Federal Trade Commission Safeguards Rule, as Greenshield expects to soon come under FTC oversight. These rules establish the national gold standard for the protection of client information in financial institutions. Greenshield intends to operate at the same levels as banks and similar institutions.

"We're taking these steps to protect our clients and to raise industry security standards," Davis said.

The Greenshield security policy change began last month. Improvements so far include new rules, such as a ban on the use of personal laptops in the office. Other steps include limiting off-site access to our IT system; locking USB ports to prevent file transfers; mandating that employees lock computers when away from their desks; and rules for the handling of internal paperwork. The upgrades will continue indefinitely.

"Information technology and security are always changing. Greenshield intends to change with it, so that our clients can always feel secure about their financial information," Davis said.
