Wachovia donates $25,000 to Greenville Technical College Program for at-risk students.
National Program Aids At-Risk Community College Students.
GREENVILLE, SC -- Greenville Technical College recently received a $25,000 donation from the Wachovia Foundation to support students through the Achieving the Dream program, a national initiative created to help at-risk college students succeed.
"At-risk students are not only in high schools, but also in colleges," said Dr. Keith Miller, president of Greenville Technical College. "If we can help these at-risk students be successful in college, we will have a stronger community and a stronger economy. Achieving the Dream can transform students, the college and the community."
Launched in 2004 by the Lumina Foundation for Education, Achieving the Dream: Community Colleges Count is a national initiative to help more community college students succeed, particularly students of color and low-income students. The initiative works on multiple fronts -- including efforts on campuses and in research, public engagement and public policy -- and emphasizes the use of data to drive change. For more information about Achieving the Dream, visit www.achievingthedream.org.
Greenville Tech is one of only 102 community colleges in the nation accepted into the Achieve the Dream program.
Established in the early 1960s, Greenville Technical College has grown from a small institution to a thriving four-campus system where over 15,000 academic students and more than 35,000 continuing education students change their futures with short-term training, programs geared to today's opportunities, and courses that will count toward a bachelor's degree when they transfer.
