Grieving Families of Seniors Lost in Nursing Homes Start Initiative to Bless Other Nursing Home Residents This Christmas
NEW YORK, November 17, 2020 (Newswire.com) - VoicesForSeniors is pioneering Operation Christmas Senior, an initiative to bless seniors who are in nursing homes this Christmas with small, heartwarming gifts. The effort will select seniors that have no family and have been impacted by the continued isolation caused by the restrictions imposed due to COVID-19. Families who have lost someone this year will have a tough time around the holidays, but giving to seniors who can’t be around loved ones for Christmas will comfort them knowing they’ve done their part.
Voices For Seniors is a grassroots advocacy group founded by two sisters, Vivian Rivera Zayas and Alexa Rivera. Their heartbreaking journey began the day their mother died unexpectedly from COVID-19 in a Long Island nursing home. They are advocating for transparency, effective reforms, and a safe, reliable system that puts the best interest of senior citizens first.
Commenting on the project, co-founder of Voices For Seniors Vivian Zayas said, "Many of us will have one less gift under our Christmas tree this year and our hearts have been forever broken. The very least we can do this Christmas is show love to the seniors still among us and remind them they are in our hearts.”
