Grown Rogue Donates to American Red Cross for Hurricane Relief

First of its kind disaster relief donation by a cannabis company

Obie and Sarah Strickler

Grown Rogue — the premier Cannabis company in Southern Oregon - announced today a donation of 3% of all sales starting Oct. 1, 2017 through November 2017 toward Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma relief. The donation will be made directly to the American Red Cross and earmarked for victims in Southern Texas and Florida. Grown Rogue Founder and CEO Obie Strickler explains, “We personally understand the tragedy natural disasters can cause for families and businesses. My wife, who is a partner in the business, and I felt the right thing to do is to donate a meaningful sum for every sale we make during this time frame.”

Grown Rogue was founded in 2016 to bring a community first approach to the recreational cannabis industry in Oregon. Grown Rogue is building on a successful track record of 10 years in the medical cannabis sector. The family-owned business has grown quickly with 2 operational outdoor farms with over 800 plants ready for harvest this season and a 17,000 square foot indoor facility going online October 2017. Grown Rogue is integrated in the Southern Oregon community but plans to expand nationally in 2018. “Even though we are far away from the disaster areas affected by the hurricanes, we want to help and sharing a small piece of our sales is a way for us to contribute,” added Strickler.

The amount of rain that Hurricane Harvey dumped on parts of Southeast Texas sets a new record of 51.88 inches, breaking the former record of 48 inches set in 1978. Experts now believe the rainfall exceeds any other flood event in the continental U.S. of the past 1000 years. (Dr. Shane Hubbard at the Cooperative Institute for Meteorological Satellite Studies). According to one estimate, Hurricane Harvey could end up being the costliest natural disaster in U.S. History where losses could run between $70 and $90 billion. Accuweather estimates the costs running as high as $190 billion.

“When a disaster this monumental hits, it is everyone’s responsibility to help. We are just doing our part,” Strickler stated.
