Gull Wings Children's Museum Selected As Top 30 Finalist in VerticalResponse 'New Deal' For Small Business Competition

Members of the public are encouraged to vote for Gull Wings, Ventura County's only children's museum, in the competition. Voting is open through April 9, and winners will be announced on April 12.

OXNARD, CA (March 26, 2010) Gull Wings Children's Museum announced today that it has been selected as one of the top thirty finalists in the VerticalResponse 'New Deal' for Small Business competition. VerticalResponse is giving away $10,000 as part of the competition.

In total there were over 70 video submissions for the 'New Deal' for Small Business competition. Gull Wings is the only children's museum represented in the contest, and is also Ventura County's only children's museum.

Public Voting Held Until April 9, 2010
Small business finalists, including Gull Wings, will be on the competition page for public voting until April 9, 2010. Members of the public are encouraged to visit the VerticalResponse 'New Deal' competition page and vote for their favorite small business. The prize winners will be announced on April 12, 2010.

"We were very excited when we received word about this competition, and submitted our video right away," said Gull Wings Executive Director Melissa Baffa. "When we got the email that we had made it to the top 30, it was high-fives all around! There were three questions that we had to answer in our video: what we do, why we do what we do, and how we would spend the money. Anyone who has been to our museum knows that we provide a fun, hands-on experience for kids, and that we are dedicated to providing this because we know that kids, especially young ones, learn well through hands-on methods and imaginative play. If we were to win the competition, we would use the money to keep providing this for the kids of Ventura County."

TO VOTE FOR GULL WINGS, go to http://newdeal.verticalresponse.com/index.php?page=14 to view the video and place your vote. "Gull Wings has been able to survive and thrive over the past twenty years due to the support of our community," explained Baffa. "We need the support of our community right now in the form of votes in this contest, because we are behind the competition in terms of the number of votes. It is such an easy way to help the museum, so we really hope people will take just a few minutes to vote and to help spread the word among their family and friends."

About Gull Wings:
Founded in 1988 by a group of area educators and others concerned about the lack of activities for children in Ventura County, Gull Wings provides a variety of fun, hands-on exhibits and "imagination stations." Children can blast off to outer space, climb a rock wall, hold live sea animals, and more when they visit the museum. Gull Wings largely relies on admission fees, private donations, grants, and funding from the eScrip and similar programs, and it receives no monetary governmental support, so giving your support by casting your vote in this contest will be greatly appreciated. You can learn more about the museum, its programs, special events, and more when you visit the museum's website at www.gullwings.org
