Gustavo Dudamel Is Declared Honorary Citizen Of Gothenburg

Internationally acclaimed conductor Gustavo Dudamel has been appointed Honorary Citizen of Gothenburg 2010. In 2007 he was signed as Music Director of the Gothenburg Symphony and since then he has broken through as a rising star of classical music and is now also engaged as Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Time Magazine included him on their list of the 100 most influential people last year, and he has more than 225 000 fans on his official Facebook page.
The city and the people of Gothenburg, Sweden's second city, annually appoints an Honorary Citizen.
An Honorary Citizen is a person who has contributed to the development of Gothenburg as a city and who has brought joy to many. Gustavo Dudamel has started a music school in a suburb of Gothenburg, based on the model from El Sistema in Venezuela where young people are given the chance to receive musical training.
