Reuters reports that China's own shale energy boom is based in regions like Chongqing, a municipality that is projected to reach as many as 1.5 billion cubic meters of shale gas production by 2015. The region is home to 30 million people and overlaps with other gas-rich areas of China. Several wells have already been drilled in the area, including at least one that has produced an industrial flow. Local authorities say that they plan to drill somewhere between 150 and 200 wells in the area before the end of 2015.
