Half-million California Children May Lose Their Health Insurance.
Online, September 16, 2009 (Newswire.com) - Massive budget cuts in the California state budget may result in up to 600,000 children being disenrolled from the California Healthy Families Program. The California Healthy Families Program has been providing coverage to almost one million low income families. As of October 1st, thousands of children will begin losing their health insurance benefits.
Families with an enrollment anniversary of September will be the first to be notified and these families will receive 30 days notice.
What can these families do?
If their income is low enough to meet certain guidelines, they may qualify for the State's Medi-Cal program. For those with incomes above the Medi-Cal eligibility level, they still have options.
One such option is to purchase a personal insurance policy in the private marketplace. There are many options starting at affordable prices - some just over a dollar per day. These plans can be purchased individually for each child, or in some cases combined together.
There is a wide range of companies competing for your business, and the benefits provided by the different plans vary widely. That makes finding an affordable health insurance plan which has the right benefits for you a challenge. For many it may make sense to seek help in obtaining low cost medical insurance to meet their family's needs. With the help of a skilled insurance broker, you can almost certainly find an excellent cheap medical insurance plan quote.
The beautiful thing is that working with broker does not add to the price. So if you are looking for alternatives to the Healthy Families Program, take a look at your options in the private marketplace with the aid of a skilled broker. To find a broker near you, consult your local phone book or your favorite search engine.
