Waldorf Schools Across the Continent Reach Out to Community
LONGMONT, Colo., November 26, 2019 (Newswire.com) - As part of the Waldorf education centennial anniversary, Waldorf schools throughout North America are participating in Hand in Hand Community Engagement Projects. Related activities aim to stimulate dialogue around human values in education and support initiatives that revitalize society and our relationship with our earth.
The Hand in Hand Community Engagement Projects are tailored to the needs of each individual community where a Waldorf school currently lives and thrives. For example, The Waldorf School of Bend is working with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and will replant 10,000 seedling trees in May 2020. On November 2, students from Waldorf Schools in Southern California and Hawaii gathered at their local beaches to clean up pollution contributing to micro plastics contamination. And the Lakota Waldorf School on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in North Dakota hosted approximately 250 people in a Pow Wow of Teča Wačipi Okolakiciye. The Lakota community demonstrated their commitment to the environment by making the event “plastic-free.”
This initiative is part of the ongoing Waldorf education centennial celebration.
