Today, independent publisher Hasslein Books unveiled its newly redesigned Web site, www.hassleinbooks.com, which features a user-friendly carousel highlighting its growing library of genre-related reference books, as well as the creative teams behind them. To celebrate this event, the firm has also announced a contest to those with Facebook and Twitter accounts.

Once 500 people have "Liked" Hasslein's Facebook page (facebook.com/hassleinbooks), a member will be chosen at random to receive a free, autographed copy of Lexicon of the Planet of the Apes: The Comprehensive Encyclopedia, by Rich Handley. This hefty tome, weighing in at 420 pages, contains 3,200 alphabetical entries in more than 50 categories, detailing every character, vehicle, location, weapon, creature and more, from the various films, TV episodes, novels, comic books and video games set in the Planet of the Apes universe. The book features breathtaking sketches by artist Pat Carbajal highlighting key characters from the Apes movies, with a foreword by literary critic John Kenneth Muir.

In addition, after 500 people have "Followed" Hasslein's Twitter feed (twitter.com/hassleinbooks), a member from that list will be randomly chosen to win an autographed copy of Handley's Timeline of the Planet of the Apes: The Definitive Chronology. This book presents four decades of Planet of the Apes lore-filmed, animated and published, including rejected and unused tales-in their proper chronological context. Providing a chronology spanning millennia, Timeline of the Planet of the Apes features 350-plus cover images, as well as a viewing/reading order list, an examination of time travel in the POTA mythos, trivia, notes discussing discontinuities, discarded and preliminary concepts, and more.

"When we launched Hasslein Books, we wanted to offer sci-fi, adventure and horror fans the types of titles we enjoy reading, as we are, first and foremost, fans ourselves," Handley said. "Our first two offerings-the Planet of the Apes books-have been very successful. Now, we're starting to grow, with nine upcoming books in various stages of planning, from such popular authors as Alan J. Porter, David A. McIntee and Jim Beard. With that in mind, it's time for us to get the word out to more genre fans."

"Social media is a powerful business tool, and we're excited at the prospect of growing our presence on Twitter and Facebook," added Paul C. Giachetti, Hasslein Books' co-founder and art director. "Joining our online communities is a great way to gain awareness of what we're doing-and, best of all, everyone who does so will have a chance to win a book. Now that our Web has undergone a complete facelift-the new design is amazing-it's a great time for us to offer some free stuff. And who doesn't like free stuff?"

For more information regarding Hasslein Books, visit hassleinbooks.com. To become eligible for the contest, simply "Follow" twitter.com/hassleinbooks and "Like" facebook.com/hassleinbooks. Winners will be announced at all three sites once the requisite numbers of followers have been reached.
