Hedingham Castle's Mammoth Garden Makeover Is Followed By Channel 4's Landscape Man

Landscaping expert Matthew Wilson follows the restoration of the castle grounds of Hedingham Castle.

The magnificent Hedingham Castle is a 110 feet high, 12th Century Norman Keep set in the beautiful Essex countryside. The castle plays host to a variety of events from classic car shows to historic re-enactments as well as doubling as a castle wedding venue. It also consists of a Queen Ann house and a small estate for a garden.

Unfortunately time had taken its toll on the castle grounds as the Victorian shrubbery had become overgrown, blocking many of the views of the house and the Keep. The owners of Hedingham Castle, Jason and Demetra Lindsay had put off restoring the grounds, as the priority was to restore the castle and house.

Independent Production Company Red House TV approached Demetra on behalf of Channel 4 to ask about featuring Hedingham Castle on a programme called 'The Landscape Man'. Landscaping expert Matthew Wilson follows the restoration projects trials and tribulations, including a burst water pipe. With a limited budget and a tight schedule, Hedingham set about restoring the gardens before the start of the wedding season.

'With little budget available, we tried to obtain sponsorship and see what could be achieved in the time available. The final results have been phenomenal, far exceeding our wildest expectations.' Says Demetra.

To see the transformation of Hedingham Castle's grounds tune into Channel 4's 'The Landscape Man' on 29th April at 8pm.
