Helping To Rebuild Ground Zero

WARDJet Inc. is honored to have a part in the many plans and companies involved with rebuilding Ground Zero. A WARDJet waterjet cutting system was used for the past year to intricately cut the names of everyone lost in attacks on our soil.

It has been 10 years since a great tragedy struck our country. Thousands have waited for he unveiling of the National September 11 Memorial and Museum at Ground Zero in New York City. This area consists of a beautiful memorial park with many trees and green spaces to aid in contemplative reflection. The site showcases 152 brass plates positioned around the two memorial pools which have been built in the footprints of the Twin Towers. The museum portion will open in 2012.

Several companies and different types of industries have been involved in this memorial project for quite some time. Service Metal Fabricating, a family owned business in Rockaway, NJ, was honored to be chosen as one of the fabricators for this precious memorial. The company spent most of the past year on this project. They were tasked with cutting all 2,982 names through half inch thick brass plates, each 10 feet by 5 feet, weighing a little more than 1,000 pounds.

A very important goal was that this would be an interactive and tactile memorial. The design and fabrication process purposely aimed for longevity in these panels so individuals can physically touch each name. Those listed are the men & women lost at Ground Zero, at the Pentagon, on Flight 93 and also the six victims from the first World Trade Center bombing on Feb. 26, 1993. Heating and cooling units are installed under the brass panels so the names can be safely touched in any kind of weather.

We at WARDJet Inc. are honored to have played a small part in this memorial. The fabricator, Service Metal, utilized one of our WARDJet waterjets for this precision cutting. Waterjet cutting was ideal for this project as it leaves no heat affected zone while cutting. For a video and more information go to http://blog.wardjet.com/.
