Hempster: A New Take on a Centuries Old Material
What began as a desire for high quality hemp bags has led to a revolutionary material that is changing the face of hemp.
Colorado Springs, Colorado, July 29, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Fed up with the low quality of hemp bags available in today’s marketplace, two friends founded Dime Bags Storage in 2007 looking to introduce a line of quality, environmentally friendly hemp bags into an emerging market. The original bag, a grey pipe bag, was made from 100% hemp and was lined with velvet- both of which proved to problematic for the brand. Seeking to toughen up the outside and eliminate the debris the velvet left, the friends returned to the drawing board.
Switching from velvet to organic cotton alleviated the debris solution instantaneously but the durability of the original hemp outside remained a problem. During the course of building the business, the men acquired a used crush machine that they found was unable to weave hemp and other dense fabrics. After spending countless hours experimenting, they found that the machine was able to process less dense fabrics such as polyester. Then it hit them- by blending the hemp with recycled polyester, they could not only increase the durability of the outside of the bag but also expand the range of colors and add a waterproof/smell proof component to the line.
Thus “Hempster” was introduced into the market and Dime Bags Storage has remained the top contender in the hemp bag industry to this day. After purchasing a factory to produce the one of a kind storage bags, the line- now containing more than 15 styles and 14 colors- has become the force to be reckoned with not only within the hemp industry but within the realm of alternative smoking gear as a whole.
“We are constantly evolving” CEO Tim Morrissey says “but not to the point in which our consumers can’t keep up. As a business, you have to find a healthy balance of evolution and continuity”.
As the brand is closing in on a being a decade old, they’ve experimented with different lines within Dime Bags, introducing Ziplines, Rollies and Nickel Bags, all with great success. The brand even allows for the customization of the bags with their Velcro Label collection, which includes 35 different labels wearers can choose from. The one constant? The Hempster fabric that has become the Dime Bags signature.
