One of the cars produced by Volkswagon (VW) Europe is the Skoda. It uses VW's computerized fuel injectors, oxygen sensor and three-way catalyst in a closed loop, the same technology that is used in the United States.
With this advanced fuel system, the Skoda achieved 28 miles per gallon on the European equivalent of the EPA's Federal Test Procedure for city driving.
Since gasoline costs $600 per gallon in Europe, Skoda decided to test several technologies that claimed to improve gas mileage.
The only improvement came from the Platinum Fuel Saver, from HHO Tek of Rutherfordton, NC, which improved gas mileage by 20%, from 28 to 33 miles per gallon.
Using engine vacuum, the FuelSaver adds molecules of platinum catalyst to the air and fuel entering the engine.
In addition to increasing gas mileage, the platinum catalyst raises the octane of the fuel and cleans the carbon out of the engine which will increase the life of the engine and increase the life of engine oil.
