Hike4Cancer Combines Hiking & Music To Benefit "There With Care"

Online, July 31, 2010 (Newswire.com) - BOULDER, COLORADO - Pete Kartsounes: Musician & Founder of Hike4Cancer is poised to begin his 3rd annual musical journey for cancer. Hike4Cancer is a foundation supporting critically ill children and their families. Each summer, they focus their efforts on a different local organization aimed at assisting children with cancer. Through concerts and advertising, Pete solicits donations to support the beneficiary with his charitable 500-mile hike & en-route concert series along the Colorado Trail. Pete welcomes financial sponsorship on a per cent/per mile basis, as well as flat donations. This year, the Boulder-based organization "There With Care" will benefit from his unique and heartfelt project.

There With Care (www.therewithcare.org) provides a range of practical services for children and families facing critical illness, with the goal of easing life's day-to-day demands during a medical crisis. There With Care depends on donations from individuals, corporate donors, as well as In-Kind products and services. Their 400+ volunteers and community partners are the backbone of this remarkable organization. They help to deliver program services to meet the needs of each family including: transportation, meals/groceries, home maintenance and sibling support. Pete's 500 mile journey, beginning July 28, 2010, is a fitting tribute to There With Care's recent milestone of assisting their 500th family.

It was on a month-long hike with a good friend & venerate hiker that Pete realized he could combine his own love of nature, music and community, to lend assistance to those in need. Soon thereafter, with the help of his good friend John "Digger" Peláez, Hike4Cancer was born.

This is Hike4Cancer's 3rd year, and at the conclusion of his hike in September, Pete will have hiked (& strummed) over 1,500 miles for cancer. This year's journey is expected to take 7 weeks, longer than previous years, but as Pete says, "will give me more creative time on the path with much less hustle". Kartsounes does much of his songwriting on the trail; sometimes playing for hikers who recognize him as "the guy who hikes for cancer". The humble title suits him just fine.

The guitar traveling on Pete's back on this 500 mile journey (from Waterton Canyon to Durango, Colorado) was generously donated by Martin Guitars. But his guitar isn't his only company. This year, Pete will hike the trail with 4 other hikers who are likewise raising money for There with Care. Pete's pilgrimage is also sponsored by a vast array of fans, musicians, and cancer survivors worldwide, who are eager to follow Pete's path in the fight to cure cancer "one step at a time".
