Online, June 14, 2010 (Newswire.com) - The Cable Show 2010, Los Angeles, May 10, 2010,- HITS® (booth #2141), a business unit of the Comcast Media Center (CMC) that provides content management and distribution services to MSOs, is unveiling its first EBIF (Enhanced Binary Interchange Format) - enabled interactive application optimized for 3DTV at The Cable Show 2010.
The new 3D interactive application is specifically designed to run on increasingly popular 3D televisions. The Consumer Electronics Association projects a growth rate of 614 percent in 3D television sales in 2010*. The momentum of 3D programming in the marketplace presents a challenge for video programming that is not in 3D source code, such as guides or tickers. HITS addresses this concern with technology that allows 3D and 2D content to be viewed simultaneously. The technology can be employed by MSOs to ensure that visual elements such as text or buttons can be delivered in high quality, viewer friendly feeds to their growing 3DTV subscriber base. This can translate to a wider adoption of popular 3D technology throughout the industry.
"We are excited by the opportunity to develop solutions that support next generation video formats. The 3D interactive application demonstrates how all elements of content can coexist in a 3D environment," said Gary Traver, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the CMC. "We have successfully integrated text, images and video feeds into a seamless viewer experience. This technology enables more rapid adoption of 3D programming and promotes the continued growth of interactive television in the future."
HITS actively develops and advances interactive television through the HITS Advanced Interactive Services (AxIS) centralized suite of solutions for the development, launch and support of EBIF. Currently, the HITS AxIS interactive platform is deployed in beta to five MSOs and supports 30 EBIF applications from 23 different vendors, including Caller ID and T-commerce. As a constant innovator in interactive services, HITS AxIS is the first platform to create and support an EBIF application specifically designed for 3D television sets.
