HIV Law Project Honored with NGLCCNY Social Enterprise Award.

NGLCCNY Recognizes HIV Law Project's Innovative and Leading-Edge Practices for Making a Difference in the Community

NGLCCNY's Social Impact Industry Council presented its First Annual Social Enterprise Award to HIV Law Project on Saturday, March 17. HIV Law Project Executive Director Tracy Welsh received the Award from NGLCCNY President Richard Oceguera in a ceremony at the Nineteenth Original GLBT Expo in New York. NGLCCNY is positioning itself as a leader among companies making a social impact. HIV Law Project is a pioneer in developing and utilizing cutting edge business models to deliver social change.

In the wake of the recent financial collapse, many companies aiming to make a social impact are interested in creating new, highly collaborative business models to reduce cross-organizational redundancy. Both non-profits and for-profit companies are working toward this new approach. NGLCCNY's Social Enterprise Award acknowledges HIV Law Project for operating at the leading edge of this new model, even as it is being invented.

"HIV Law Project embodies the power of social impact," said NGLCCNY President Richard Oceguera. "Our world has shifted - and so has the way we operate and how we succeed as businesses and non-profits." As a term, "social enterprise" is usually applied to tax paying entities whose business is social impact. NGLCCNY is broadening the term to encompass any business, tax-paying or not, designed to effect social change. The new social enterprise is lean-budgeted and agile, and delivers a high level of results.

"It's an honor for HIV Law Project to be recognized for our effectiveness in defending the rights of people with HIV," said HIV Law Project Executive Director Tracy Welsh. "Innovation, creative leadership, and collaboration are essential for us to achieve our collective goals." The Award Ceremony was followed by a wine tasting reception and a toast to HIV Law Project. Proceeds from tickets sold for the event are being donated to HIV Law Project. The Second Annual Social Enterprise Award will be given at the GLBT Expo in March 2013.
