Hearing Loss Association of America, California State Association (HLAA-CA) Announces its Participation in the Disability Capitol Action Day at the State Capitol

The Hearing Loss Association of America, California State Association, Inc. (HLAA-CA) announces its participation and exhibiting in the twelfth annual Disability Capitol Action Day at the State Capitol in Sacramento, California, on Wednesday, May 20, 2015.

The Disability Capitol Action Day is hosted by the Disability Action Coalition.  The Disability Capitol Action Day is one of California’s largest and most diverse days of cross-disability unity and action.  This event brings hundreds of people with disabilities, allies, and family members to the California state capitol for a day of unity, learning, and history making.  It is an all-day outdoor event with booths of various disability groups.  This year should be extra special.  It is the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), which was signed into law in 1990.  More than 3,000 attendees are expected, with more than 100 volunteers.  Guests will hear from disability activists, community leaders, legislators, and performers with disabilities.  Forty-one exhibits and booths representing all disabilities will allow attendees to learn more about these disabilities.

In particular, HLAA-CA’s booth will provide information for those with hearing loss.  Attendees will learn about the latest phone captioning options, recent innovations in hearing aids, assistive listening devices, new technology, and HLAA services.  HLAA-CA provides information, education, support, and advocacy services to Californians with hearing loss, their relatives, and their friends.  HLAA-CA is an affiliate of the Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA), which is the nation’s leading organization representing people with hearing loss.  HLAA provides information, education, support, and advocacy services to people with hearing loss, their relatives, and their friends.  Throughout California, there are 18 HLAA chapters, which hold regular meetings for individuals to learn about techniques and equipment that can help people with hearing loss hear better on the phone, in meetings, while watching TV, in noisy restaurants, or at parties.

Hearing loss is a daily challenge you can overcome.  You do not have to hide hearing loss.  HLAA-CA and HLAA open the world of communication through information, education, support, and advocacy services.  HLAA-CA is 501(c)(3) tax exempt, nonprofit organization.

This year the Disability Action Coalition will be providing lunch to the first 1,000 people who register on their website.  To register, please visit https://disabilityactioncoalition.org, click on Participant Registration, and complete the form; after you submit the form, you will receive a confirmation email.  A lunch ticket will be included in the confirmation email, if you are one of the first 1,000 people to register.  Transportation scholarships may be available but are very limited.  Those in need of a transportation scholarship should visit the transportation scholarship webpage to fill out an application.
