Hobbyglass.com Introduces First Round Bottom Optic Mold

Hobbyglass.com continues to expand our line of cast bronze optic mold for glass makers with the addition of our first round bottom mold. Designed and produced in California.

Scott Hegan, the owner of Hobbyglass.com, is pleased to announce the introduction of our first round bottom mold. It is a 6 inch, fourteen rib model in which all of the ribs meet at the center of the base of the mold. This cast bronze premium product is available from the Hobbyglass studio and Olympic Color Rods, in Seattle, WA.

The advantage of the round bottom design is quicker production. Unlike the flat bottom designs which typically require the gaffer take several steps to jack and shear the bottom, the round bottom mold forms a parison that is ready for inflation immediately after the impression is taken. Recent tests indicate savings of several minutes per piece.

Like our other bronze molds, this artisan tool for glassblowers is produced with superior material, advanced proprietary vacuum casting techniques and cnc finishing.

The optic mold, a fundamental tool in glassblowing, has been made in various forms since the middle ages. Commonly available optic molds are made from inferior materials and designs. Optic molds from Hobbyglass.com are a premium product made for glassblowers by a glassblower.

Hobbyglass.com, a division of Hegan Glassworks, Inc., produces tools and supplies for the hot glass artist. The studio is located in Northern California. For more information, log onto www.hobbyglass.com, call the studio at 707-462-5191 or email [email protected]
