Hobbyglass.com Introduces Five New Cast Bronze Optic Molds

Hobbyglass.com introduces five new cast bronze optic molds for glassblowers

Scott Hegan, the owner of Hobbyglass.com, is pleased to announce the introduction of five new optic molds for glassblowers. In the 4 inch series, round bottom molds in 12, 14 and 16 points are now in production. In the 6 inch series, round bottom molds in 14 and 16 points are now available. These premium cast bronze tools for glassblowers and artists are available from the Hobbyglass studio and Olympic Color Rods, in Seattle, WA.

The advantage of the round bottom design is obvious when in use, it makes a better bubble. Unlike the flat bottom designs which typically require the gaffer take several steps to jack and shear the bottom, the round bottom mold forms the glass into a shape that is ready for blowing immediately after the impression is taken.

Flat bottom molds from Hobbyglass.com still allow the glassblower to arrange cane in the mold and warm the setup in an oven above annealing temperature. When the bubble is subsequently inserted in the mold, all cane will adhere to the surface perfectly spaced, ready to proceed in whatever manner the gaffer prefers.

All artisan tools sold by Hobbyglass.com are produced with superior material, advanced proprietary vacuum casting techniques and cnc finishing. Designed and manufactured in California.

Hobbyglass.com, a division of Hegan Glassworks, Inc., produces tools and supplies for the hot glass artist. The optic mold, a fundamental tool in glassblowing, has been made in various forms since at least the middle ages. The studio is located in Northern California.
