Holidaymakers Look for Decent Knives and a Bottle of Plonk on Self Catering Holidays

Online, June 14, 2012 (Newswire.com) - Recent research by UK based villa rental specialists Owners Direct revealed that Brits sometimes take their own utensils with them - including a bottle opener; but with knives a no-no on flights, travellers hope that the kitchen will be well equipped with a good selection of sharp knives, making it easy to prepare meals and dine in whilst away.

Closely following this came wine. Despite choosing the self catering option, it seems that the little extras go a long way - a nice chilled bottle of wine waiting in the fridge or a tea tray with choices for hot drinks, complete with biscuits are the icing on the cake for many holidaymakers.

Other essentials that we look for include salt and pepper pots, scissors, tea towels and egg cups.

Impressive appliances like a state of the art fridge or a great toaster also leave a good lasting impression. One holidaymaker was really excited to find a Smeg fridge with built in wine rack at her holiday property and a cafetiere or coffee machine to make a good cup coffee is a must for many people.

And whilst many love to cook up a delicious meal on holiday using good kitchen equipment and local ingredients - a few say they'd rather avoid cooking altogether. One holidaymaker said: "The first thing I ask on booking self-catering accommodation is where the nearest restaurant is!"
