"We all know that it is important to save the environment. We also know that it is important to provide a place in the community for youth and seniors to gather," said Rebecca Reich, Chair Person of the Green Committee at Hollis Hills Jewish Center. "There are a variety of products and services that didn't exist a few years ago. It is our aim to bring some of these together for an afternoon and give our visitors a condensed view of how they can make a difference for the environment and the community."

About Hollis Hills Jewish Center

In 1947, in the area surrounding the Hollis Hills Jewish Center, a group of women formed a Hadassah Chapter to help fill the need for Jewish identification following World War II. Meeting in a store on 222nd Street, the chapter increased to a group of 50 women. In 1948, a Sunday school was formed with group members teaching Jewish Studies in their homes. The need for a synagogue was growing and was met when 100 families each contributed $100 leading to the purchase of a lot on 211th and Union Turnpike. The Sisterhood started fundraising with a Bazaar and succeeded in raising $5,000. A tent was pitched for the first High Holiday Services and, by 1950, the first part of Hollis Hills Jewish Center was born.
