Home Decor Company Launches Beyond Contemporary Hand Knotted Luxury Carpets

While living in Ottawa, Canada, Ms. Mockson recruited Canadian painter Margery Leach as the lead artist, whose modern abstract compositions form the basis of the initial series of carpets. Ms. Leach is inspired by colour, form, light and balance. Her paintings are striking and distinctive, challenging and inspiring. Ms. Mockson and Ms. Leach describe their vision for the carpets as Beyond Contemporary, merging an age-old craft with envelope-pushing modern art to create a new genre of carpets of peerless quality and beauty.
Recognizing carpet weaving as a form of cultural and artistic expression perfected over centuries, they understood that they needed to partner with skilled artisans who could bring the integrity of the profession to the project, while sharing their Beyond Contemporary vision.

The initial series of carpets, based on four original Margery Leach paintings, is woven in Bhadohi, India, a city in northern India whose mastery of carpet making has earned the area its own Geographical Indication. The expert carpet makers bring a blend of traditional methods and modern artistic sensibility to interpret, rather than simply reproduce, the paintings into carpets.

The results of merging the brilliant compositions with fine materials, weaving and finishing offer to shift paradigms in modern home decor.

Production partner, Fusion Trading Company is a full-line textile company working with specialty stores and major retailers from coast-to-coast in Canada and the USA. Fusion's president, David Burcsik oversees production of the Beyond Contemporary luxury carpets from concept to delivery.
