Homeschool Curriculum Swap Sale In Central Illinois
WHEN - Friday, July 9th WHERE - Spitler Woods State Natural Area - Mt. Zion, IL - Ida Spitler enclosed pavilion This is OPEN TO ALL to sell and buying will be open to the public for a larger net of purchasers.
Online, June 7, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Do you have used curricula and other educational items you'd like to sell, but don't want to mess with selling them online?? Are you too busy to "work a booth" selling your stuff? Do you want to see what educational options are available?
Then we have just the event for you!! This is OPEN TO ALL (homeschoolers, teachers, etc...) to sell and buying will be open to the public for a larger net of purchasers. This sale is sponsored by MICAH - Mid-Illinois Cooperative Adventures in Homeschooling - but you do not have to be a member to participate in any way. MICAH members will have the benefit of a lower commission amount. Since MICAH membership for the 2010-2011 school year is now open, don't delay in joining, or re-registering. If you join prior to July 6th, you may sell items at the member rate. You can also register for MICAH support group membership at the sale if you're not interested in selling items. Monday Fun Class enrollment will also be available. MICAH REGISTRATION INFORMATION IS LOCATED ON OUR WEBSITE: http://www.micahcooperative.org/

* WHEN - Friday, July 9th (SAVE THE DATE!), time TBD, but the greater part of the day
===
* WHERE? - Spitler Woods State Natural Area - Mt. Zion, IL - Ida Spitler enclosed pavilion (second driveway on the right after entering park).
===
* DIRECTIONS/MAP?
Map to park: http://tinyurl.com/SpitlerWoods-Map
Park Map: http://dnr.state.il.us/lands/landmgt/parks/sitemaps/spitler.gif
===
* HOW? - SELLERS will drop off materials ahead of the sale. Location and date TBD, based on number of participants. Sellers will mark each item on a bookmark-style print out before drop off with their full name, item name, grade level(s). Item info file will be mailed to sellers as they register. MICAH volunteers will sort all materials by subject/course and grade level. So all sellers' materials will be combined into easily searchable boxes on tables, sorted by convenient categories.
... Sellers will *not* have to be present at the sale. Sellers must, however, pick up all their leftover items at the end of the sale, or make special arrangements to do so. If a seller wishes to donate their items to the MICAH lending library, they may do so. Failure to pick up non-sold items by the deadline will result in forfeiture to MICAH.
*Income distributions will be sent to each seller no later than July 30th.
... All details will be in the selling agreement information sheet e-mailed to you upon registering.
... BUYERS will pay for ALL their purchases in ONE TRANSACTION, payable to MICAH. This is much more convenient than paying 10 different sellers. We will accept cash or personal check payments.
===
* COSTS? - Instead of a flat "table" rate, sellers will be charged a percentage of their sales. If they do not sell any items, they will not have to pay. So it's a no-lose situation! If you sell $10, your percentage to MICAH will be 50 cents as a member, or $1 as a non-member. If you sell $100, it will be $5 or $10 - a reasonable rate for the ease of selling.
... Current (2009-2010), and new (now-July 6th) MICAH members will be charged 5% of their total sales income to enter items in the sale. There will be limited opportunities for volunteering at the sale for a reduced rate.
... Non-MICAH homeschoolers will be charged 10% of their total sales to enter items in the sale. These fees are simply to cover MICAH's cost for the pavilion rental and a small stipend for hauling and organizing materials - all proceeds go into MICAH's account, not to MICAH volunteers.
... Commercial vendors (Scentsy Candles, Pampered Chef, Creative Memories, etc.) will be charged 10% for an informative table with catalogs, give aways, and samples. They may choose to be available for demonstrations.
===
* WHY? - To save a bunch of money on educational/HS items, or spend too much feeding your curriculum junkie habit. :) To also see and feel different publishers items in hand, for those of us who have to see and feel stuff before purchasing. Sell off the stuff that's just taking room in your home that you're not using. Get ideas for new curricula. Get rid of stuff all at one time rather than piece meal.

*** WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON THAT DAY AT THE PARK? ***
** FOOD - FUN - FEllOWSHIP - FRIENDS **
* We will have food vending available (grilled items, chips, drinks, candy) for very reasonable prices. Or simply bring a picnic lunch of your own. Bring the kids and they can play on the park playgrounds (one right in front of the pavilion), roller skate, play different sports, take a nature hike, do a scavenger hunt, and whatever else we decide to do!
* This is more than *just* a swap sale. This is an event to come and meet new friends, see if homeschoolers are all unsocialized [wink, wink], catch up with out-of-touch friends, and enjoy a day in the park. MICAH will provide responsible teens and parents to oversee the children's activities while you shop or chat.
* You can re-register for the MICAH *support group* that day - $10 per-family fee (good until July 31, 2011). You may also enroll in MICAH's Monday Fun Classes (MFC), pay the related fees, and save a stamp and time to turn in your paperwork! MFC co-op representatives (board members, teachers, aides) will be available to answer any questions, or discuss any concerns you have.
PLEASE COME AND JOIN US!! JUST COME HANG OUT IF YOUR SPOUSE WON'T LET YOU OUT OF THE HOUSE WITH ANY MONEY!
BRING YOUR ROLLING CARTS, CRATES, and TOTE BAGS and fill them up! Bring the kids! Bring the spouses! Bring the neighbors and grandparents!!
We look forward to seeing you!
