Hong Kong Exhibit Features Dazzling and Enchanting Swarovski-Adorned LEGO Sculptures by Cimon

Exhibit of LEGO® bricks transformed into dazzling structures that sparkle and delight with SWAROVSKI® crystals by NY based Australian artist Cimon: Nov 16 to Dec 26 at Landmark North in Hong Kong.

Audiences in Hong Kong will soon have a chance to capture some of the enchanting glamour and magic for this holiday season at Landmark North, Sheung Shui with an exhibit of sculptures by the New York based Australian artist Cimon. Scheduled to run from November 16 to December 26, this exhibit showcases a series of incredibly beautiful yet intimate sculptures made with ordinary LEGO® bricks that have been transformed into dazzling structures that sparkle and delight with SWAROVSKI® crystals. The exhibit, which will be housed in a popup gallery especially built for the occasion at Landmark North, features eighteen works by Cimon, including twelve works from the "Little Love Stories" collection and the world premiere of the sculptural installation, "Holiday Town."

Each "Little Love Story" requires highly skilled craftsmanship and creativity to showcase its delicate details. Every sculpture involves building the sets with LEGO® bricks, careful placement of figures and other parts, followed by a delicate application of a metal finish to the piece. Cimon painstakingly hand places every small crystal to position them correctly. Some of the "Little Love Stories" even feature kinetic elements with movable parts such as the moving conveyor belts in the piece, "Making Love," the moving merry-go-round that plays music in "Love Comes Around" or the Holiday Trains that can run on LEGO® tracks.

Cimon attributes his love of beauty and rich, vibrant color to growing up in the lush suburbs of Sydney, Australia. After studying at the Parsons School of Design in New York, he arrived on the art scene as a painter of large canvasses he dubbed Colour Therapy. Cimon's paintings often explore the power of color to evoke emotional responses in viewers. Splashed with strong, effervescent colors, they soon brought him a loyal following. Today, he concentrates on his crystal-embellished LEGO® sculptures, exploring the dynamics of color and refracted light.

Aside from his paintings and sculptures, Cimon has also collaborated with famous luxury brands such as the French cosmetics company Chantecaille when he created a limited edition crystallized fragrance bottles. He has also created one-of-a-kind bottles for Perrier-Jouët champagne and Absolut Vodka.

Toying with the idea of creating a sparkling world of fun, Cimon decided to use LEGO® as the medium out of his childhood love. "I started my artistic career first as a painter where I worked with rich, strong and powerful colors. When I decided to move into sculpture, I wanted to work with a familiar medium but one that was not used often. I remembered how I loved building LEGO sets and decided to try that." As a LEGO® fan since youth, Cimon is no stranger to the small building block that have amazed adults and children the world over. He says, "I started playing with Lego bricks and sets when I was about 2 or 3 years old until when I was about 15. I always enjoyed building structures and environments using the bricks. They have an incredibly simple design but are an undeniably effective and accessible medium for conveying a story."

Truly the centerpiece of this exhibit, Holiday Town, a sculptural installation depicting a small town built of LEGO® bricks and encrusted with SWAROVSKI® crystals will have its world debut in Hong Kong this holiday season. The installation consists of: an ice skating rink, a Santa's workshop, a hotel, a grocer and a shopping emporium all surrounded by a running LEGO train. Every floor of each building has been finished as well, revealing festive scenes filled with the holiday spirit. Designed and constructed by Cimon over the course of a year, the sculpture combines SWAROVSKI® crystals with hard-to-find limited edition LEGO® sets.
