Horror Realm Presents The Fog For Women In Horror Month

35mm print screening to honor producer/screenwriter Debra Hill for her contributions to the horror genre

Horror Realm celebrates Women in Horror Month with a film screening honoring the late producer and screenwriter Debra Hill. A 35 mm print of The Fog, one of Ms. Hill's most notable films, will be shown on February 26, 2011 at 10 PM at the Oaks Theater in Oakmont, PA.

Debra Hill was a groundbreaking female in the male dominated movie industry, with a career that started as a production assistant and eventually led to producing and co-writing the iconic slasher film Halloween. Ms. Hill, along with director John Carpenter, created the Michael Myers character that spawned one of the largest horror movie franchises in history.

Her first major film experience was in1976's Assault on Precinct 13, on which she was assistant editor and script supervisor, and where she first worked with future collaborator Carpenter. Following the success of Halloween, Hill produced and wrote The Fog, the film that will be screened in her honor for Women in Horror Month.

Outside the horror genre, Ms. Hill produced such films as Adventures in Babysitting, Big Top Pee Wee, Crazy in Alabama and World Trade Center. In addition to her work in motion pictures, Ms. Hill directed an episode of the short-lived television series Monsters.

Debra Hill was a board member of Women in Film, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping women achieve their highest potential within the global entertainment, communications and media industries and to preserving the legacy of women within those industries, and was honored by the organization in 2003. She passed away on March 7, 2005 at the age of 54.

Ms. Hill blazed a trail for other women in horror such as actress/director/producer Amy Lynn Best. The February 26 program will feature the short film I Spit on Eli Roth, which was directed by Ms. Best, as well as trailers for her films Severe Injuries and Splatter Film. Ms. Best has also appeared in numerous horror films and was assistant editor of the film The Resurrection Game. She and her husband, writer/director Mike Watt, are the principals of Happy Cloud Pictures.

Tickets are $8 and will be available at the door. Net proceeds of this event will benefit Pittsburgh Action Against Rape. All paid admissions will be entered into a prize drawing.
