Host of Benefits as Europa Technologies Launches ViaEuropa Service

Leading UK geodata company builds on its USP in map rendering to launch a ground-breaking hosted service for businesses and government.

Multi-award winning data provider Europa Technologies has launched a ground-breaking hosted map service harnessing the power of its unique map rendering technology.

viaEuropa, unveiled at the AGI Cymru annual conference in Cardiff, aims to bridge the gap between raw data delivery and ready-to-use mapping.

It builds on Europa Technologies' years of expertise including rendering and delivering high quality map tiles directly into web map and desktop GIS applications.

viaEuropa promises time and money savings for users across the UK's public and private sectors with benefits for both departmental intranets and public facing websites.

Warren Vick, Europa Technologies' Founder & Director, said: "At a time of constrained spending in government and business, users do not want to waste time worrying about the costs of map data management. Our long-standing USP in data rendering has given us an ideal platform to launch viaEuropa. It is a fast, easy-to-implement solution offering enhanced cartographic flexibility and consistent maps that can be used across different applications and platforms. This is ideal for organisations seeking to improve their performance or customer service."

viaEuropa is compatible with virtually any source of digital map data including OS OpenData™ and can seamlessly integrate different products, levels of detail and colour vision deficiency support. It uses a standards-based approach to deliver mapping to applications and APIs across desktop, web and mobile platforms.

viaEuropa Open, a free version available at www.viaeuropa.uk.com, is aimed at lower usage applications in non-commercial environments. It offers ready-to-use maps derived from OS OpenData™ that are already accessible as raw data in the public domain.

A paid-for version with dedicated hosting, viaEuropa Plus, is designed to support commercial applications and higher levels of availability.

The two services, differentiated through performance and usage limits, are examples of Data as a Service (DaaS) and use high performance hosting to provide a scalable level of performance as the number of users grows.

Ordnance Survey director James Brayshaw welcomed the new service. He said: "I am delighted to see that Europa Technologies, a new partner of Ordnance Survey, has developed an innovative way for organisations to use OS OpenData™ mapping without the need for internal management of the data. The viaEuropa hosted service makes it easy for any organisation to benefit from low level to high quality digital maps seamlessly, whilst improving the overall service and making savings at the same time."

Users register online for viaEuropa Open, receiving access information and details of how to link their applications to the service.

For viaEuropa Plus, users should contact Europa Technologies on +44 (0)1932 64 55 60 or [email protected].

Europa Technologies, based in Cobham, won the International Business Award at the Surrey Business Awards and the Small Business award at the Toast of Surrey Business Awards in 2009. The company was also a finalist in the 2009 Dell Small Business Excellence Awards.
