Houston Bike Share Announces New Executive Director

Houston Bike Share announced on Wednesday, March 9th, the hire of John S. Daly as the new Executive Director. Daly previously served as the Senior Vice President East Region for BP North American and currently serves as Chairman Emeritus of the Board of the Arbor School.  He will report to the Houston Bike Share Board of Directors for the Houston B-cycle program.

“We are excited to have John join the Bike Share team,” says Neil Bremner, Board President of Houston Bike Share. “He comes at an important time as demand for the program continues to increase and we are in the process of expanding the program.  His combined business skills, non-profit background and genuine enthusiasm brings just the right experience to our growing Bike Share system.”

In addition to an extensive background in strategic development and management, Daly is also a passionate cyclist with more than 15 years of involvement in local cycle clubs, races and charity events.

”I am proud to be part of Houston Bike Share and all that the bike share program provides the residents and visitors of Houston,” says Daly.  “Cycling has always been a major part of my life and I am looking forward, with the support of all my fellow cyclists, to expand the use of bicycles as an alternative mode of transport within the City of Houston and throughout surrounding neighborhoods over the years to come.”

On September of 2015, the Houston-Galveston Area Council Transportation Policy Council approved a $3.4 million dollar grant to expand the B-cycle program. The funding will enable Houston Bike Share to expand from 31 stations to 100 stations and 800 bikes in the next 16-20 months, making Houston B-cycle one of the biggest bike share programs in the country.

Since the inception of Houston B-cycle, more than 250,000 trips have been made, resulting in 1.4 million miles traveled, 1.3 million pounds of carbon offset, and 57.5 million calories burned since.
