How To Get Your Script Talked About At Every Hollywood Party

There are a lot of ways to get buzz going in Hollywood for your script, but screenplay contests are one of the best.

Hey, everyone!

Entering a script contest is not only a hoot, it's also a great way of getting your screenplays noticed. I'll bet there's not one screenwriter out there who doesn't appreciate just how hard it is to get your scripts even read, let alone adopted. It all seems so damned unfair. You can spend weeks of hard work and soul searching to bring one screenplay to completion, but after all of that effort, you just can't seem to get someone to read it. It can be absolutely soul destroying. It's not therefore surprising that a great many budding screenwriters actually quit out of sheer desperation before their careers have even been given a chance of getting started.

By taking part in a script contest, you will be presenting your screenplay with its very best chance of getting read. Writing contests were devised with one thing in mind, and that is to bring more talent out into the open. It's not just us screenplay writers who get frustrated at the lack of opportunity. Big names within the industry are themselves frustrated at what they see as an apparent lack of new material coming into the mix. It's actually this very reason that has led to the birth of competitions in the first place. So, we owe it not only to ourselves, but to the industry professionals also, to get as many new screenplays into the competition arena as possible. We will not only be helping the expectant judges, (many of whom are made up of the industries producers, directors, and agents), but we are also helping ourselves.

A script contest is more than just an opportunity to get your screenplays read however, it's also a great incentive that makes us writers want to write more. It's only by writing, by exercising our talent, that we can develop our screenplay expertise. It gives is the chance to air new ideas and try different approaches, and this is exactly what the industry is in desperate need of.

When you stop and think about it, there's not really anything more exciting that entering a new script contest. You get the chance to parade your writing skills; you are giving yourself the opportunity to fine tune those skills and your writing style; you are getting your scripts in front of some of the industry's most discerning eyes; you are creating the chance to get discovered, and you are putting yourself in with the chance to win some serious prize money to boot. It's a win, win, win situation.

It's only by a process of continuous improvement that you can really keep your hopes of making it alive - and that's precisely what a script contest does - it tempts you to write new screenplays. The truth of the matter is that there is an awful lot of good talent out there, as yet undiscovered, and more are joining the ranks all the time. So if you want to be in with a chance of being discovered, you've got to try and stay ahead of the field.

But don't just settle for entering one script contest; why not spread your talents around a little bit and enter several? Some contests are free to enter, whereas you may have to pay an entrance fee for others. But at the end of the day don't forget that it's your future career that you are dealing with, so surely that's got to be worth investing in! in!
