HTC coming with its own OS
There is an optimistic whiz in the air that HTC may come with its own OS very soon. The revelation came out from HTC's chief financial officer, Cheng Hui-ming.
Online, April 15, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Although, it is too early to project something, however HTC is considering the move seriously. However, at the current stage, they are just assessing the situation and their position. As there are always few of the conditions to justify, the situation may clarify further with the passage of time.
Interestingly, the current news rolled out amidst the rumours that HTC is considering to to Palm. As there is no dearth of players, which are known for boasting the Operating Systems, HTC can emerge as one of the key players in the field. However, when HTC Corp. Taiwan's largest mobile- phone maker came out with this piece of news, it provided a jolt to the entire industry.
The manufacturer at this stage is looking whether to equip phones with its own operating system or not as this will take time and most of its energies. It will certainly intensify the competition with Google Inc. as a result. Cheng Hui-ming, chief financial officer of the Taoyuan, said, "We continue to assess, but that requires a few conditions to justify" to install our own system. So, never mind the HTC Desire is devoid of the same.
HTC's own operating system is believed to provide the company a serious push in terms of marketing. It will certainly pose a serious challenge to Google and Microsoft software and considerably reduce the dependence on the outside developers. The current move of the HTC to install its own OS is due to the fact that it want to enjoy the market dominance with Apple and Research in Motion. Why they are successful is that they have their own OS. So, it is necessary to create ones own.
However, if we look at the market position pertaining to smartphones, in 2009, Palm's WebOS was 0.7 percent, and 46.9 stood for the handsets using Symbian, Nokia Oyj's main smartphone software,. Similarly, Research In Motion Ltd.'s BlackBerry had 19.9 percent, Google Android OS 3.9 percent, and Apple's iPhone 14.4 percent, as according to the Gartner.
