I Am Glad I Got The Opportunity To Evolve As a Responsible Global Citizen" Said BIMTECH's Akash Mittal After Attending The Prudential Foundation Global Citize

Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) student Akash Mittal became a member of an elite group when he was selected to participate in the Prudential Foundation Global Citizen Program.

Birla Institute of Management Technology (BIMTECH) student Akash Mittal became a member of an elite group when he was selected to participate in the Prudential Foundation Global Citizen Program.

One of two BIMTECH students chosen - and one of only 26 students selected from India, South Korea, Taiwan and Japan - he joined a prestigious program specifically designed for students interested in learning more about the financial role of private, government and non-profit sectors in the U.S. and abroad.

The program gives students the opportunity to work and interact with experts in areas such as business, corporate social responsibility and ethics.

In an intense internship, Prudential Foundation Global Citizen Program participants learn valuable, real-world information to help them in their professional career.

The application process was highly competitive, involving filling out an application, gathering letters of recommendation, being interviewed by telephone and then a final face-to-face interview.

The program has had an immediate impact on Akash, helping him to improve his perception of international development, improve his analytical powers, improve his networking skills and "become a responsible global citizen."

After being selected, Akash chose to focus on a civic program involving the issue of homelessness in the United States.

Working 15 hours on the project, Akash was evaluated on the basis of the internship, academic course, civic engagement project and his participation.

He chose the subject of homelessness because it is not just a problem affecting the United States, but is a global issue, including India. Akash is hopeful. In the future, he envisions India as one of the developed countries where there will be no sign of hunger or poverty.

The Prudential Foundation Global Citizen Program is designed to give students abroad an understanding of the role the U.S. government plays in the context of increasing global business relations. Akash's experience led him to see this.

"We attended a course on APEC (Asia Pacific Economic Co-operation) which taught us, practically and theoretically, about trade and investment in APEC countries and the role the U.S. government plays in the system and apart from it. We met many federal authorities who gave us insight about the U.S. government's efforts to improve global business relations."

Apart from learning innumerable new things, the scholarship helped Akash meet many new people from across the globe.

"The best part of the program was to meet and live with students from different countries. I learned a lot about their countries and adopted the best from them. It was a brilliant experience to know about their countries and to tell them about mine."

And he's grateful to BIMTECH for giving him this chance.

"I am very grateful to BIMTECH for providing this opportunity to me. BIMTECH has been very supportive throughout this program. My program co-ordinator, Dr. Rahul Singh, and other professors were always there to help me."
