IASP Holds Online Fan-Raising Weekend to Surpass 10,000 Facebook Fans
The International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) will hold an online Facebook Fan-Raising weekend on May 28th and 29th to help the Association reach and surpass 10,000 Facebook Fans. The organization now has over 8,300 fans.
Online, May 26, 2011 (Newswire.com) - During the weekend of May 28th and 29th, IASP FB Fans will use the IASP's 10k Facebook image as their Profile picture and will encourage their Facebook Friends and others to become fans of the IASP, an association that has been on the forefront of global and local suicide prevention activity for the last 50 years, and also the key Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) in official relations with the World Health Organization (WHO) in addressing suicide prevention.
The goal is to surpass 10,000 IASP Facebook Fans who support suicide prevention locally and throughout the world.
IASP President Lanny Berman says, "The IASP Facebook Fan page serves to be a source for screened suicide prevention resources and information on the latest developments in suicide prevention research and practice worldwide. But the Fan Page is also is a source of comfort to those who have lost a loved one to suicide as our Fans support each other."
The IASP, which is preparing for World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th, has membership from over 50 countries, including academics, mental health professionals, crisis workers, volunteers and suicide survivors.
Each year as many as 1,000,000 people are estimated to die by suicide across the globe; many, many more make nonfatal attempts. We cannot underestimate the impact these fatal and nonfatal attempts have on loved ones, friends and associates.
If you are a Facebook user, we invite you to support the IASP and become a Facebook Fan of the IASP.
