IMT Ghaziabad Ranked 3rd In Careers 360 B-school Ranking List 2011

IMT Ghaziabad wins in the number game yet again. It is among the top three B-Schools in the Careers 360 Private B-School rankings.

Careers 360, a publication targeting young people between the age group of 17 to 35, it offers a spectrum of expert advice, insights and information on education and careers.

Each year, this publication from the Outlook Group comes out with B-School rankings to help future MBA students choose their
institute to qualify from.

IMT Ghaziabad was ranked among the top three B-Schools in the Private B-School Ranking section of the study conducted by Careers 360. "Rankings are very important to any B-School," says Dr. Bibek Banerjee, Director, IMT Ghaziabad. "They are arrived at by the scores the participating institutes are awarded based on various parameters set by the ranking body. If a B-School wants to stay on top or become better, it has to pay close attention to improving itself on a continuous basis. While factors like infrastructure are important, the most important is the faculty. In India, getting good faculty is a B-School's biggest challenge."

Education is one area where you cannot rest your laurels. An excellent management institute must be willing to change-constantly. Once that is established, all else follows. Some of the changes include infrastructure improvement, pedagogy, deep awareness of industry trends and the ability to transfer this knowledge effectively to students.

"These rankings help us gauge what an institute is capable of giving us in terms of education, infrastructure, faculty, comfortable spaces to study and live in, and, very importantly, value for money," says a student who is happy that he chose to do his PGDM at IMT Ghaziabad.

"We need an assurance of our pay packet when we are ready for employment," says another. "We are ready to work hard, work smart, innovate and learn on a daily basis. An institute succeeds when it points us to the right direction to success."

The ranking indicates that Indian B-Schools must pay a lot more attention to research and publications. Another area where growth is necessary is in the international exchange programmes. Some institutes have made progress in the student related exchanges, but lack in the area of international faculty exchange.

For all practical purposes, the Careers 360 rankings have been unbiased and very fairly conducted, giving students a true picture of where the institute they are planning to apply to stands.

Methodology:
Careers 360 pruned their questionnaire based on the experience gained over the last two years. In 2011, they used around 20 parameters under three sections - Input, Process and Output. These sections carried weightages of 210, 240 and 370 respectively, totalling to 820.

Starting out, the study looked at the mandatory disclosures on the institute websites. Careers 360 were disappointed with what they saw. "The data contained in mandatory disclosures was hardly 50 per cent of what it was 'mandated' to be," Nitin Jindal says in his online report.

The publication followed up their website survey with questionnaires mailed out to each of the B-schools on their database and put it up on their website. Some institutes answered the questions partially. The serious professionals, in true management style were quite thorough. Some others - among them a few top institutes - thought it below their dignity to participate.

A few even made false claims, which had to be verified before the results were collated. The task at hand was a marathon one. Still, Careers 360 did it and came out with the winners. IMT Ghaziabad is very proud to be a part of this professionally and painstakingly collated ranking.
