India Sourcing Report: Garments survey shows 83 percent of exporters expect sales growth next year

Manufacturers focus on product functionality, better fit and performance; Most use locally available fabrics to keep quotes competitive

DELHI, Dec. 16, 2009 - The non-profit Kearny Alliance (http://www.kearnyalliance.org) has released the India Sourcing Report: Garments (http://www.chinasourcingreports.com/csr/india-garments) with the support of its partner in development Global Sources (http://www.globalsources.com), to give global buyers access to verified suppliers in India. Most makers expect sales growth in 2010.

The report includes profiles of 18 manufacturers, plus descriptions, prices and packaging details for over 100 top selling export products. These include casual wear, evening and cocktail dresses, polo and T-shirts, blouses, suits, pants, jeans, skirts, undergarments, and baby and children's clothes.

"India-made garments appeal to global buyers due to their competitive prices and the ability of makers to produce designs that meet current fashion trends," said Alexander Boome, program director of The Kearny Alliance. "India has a long tradition of garments production and has abundant raw materials. This enables suppliers to offer competitive products and suggests why more buyers are turning to India for quality garments."

One supplier in the report, Amit Agarwal, director of LM Sagar Exports, said: "Until we worked with the Kearny Alliance, we had not focused on clear unique selling points in our marketing practices.

"This new understanding, together with the free 4-month marketing exposure via Global Sources Online, can really make us become more professional in export communication, help attract new buyers and generate new orders."

Survey results show makers optimistic about export prospects; most plan to hold or reduce quotes
The survey of garments manufacturers featured in the report shows:
* 83 percent of makers are optimistic sales will increase in the next 12 months;
* 60 percent will target the E.U. market;
* 83 percent will focus on designs with better fit and performance; and,
* 61 percent expect to hold export quotes, while 22 percent plan to reduce prices.
More sourcing opportunities for global buyers; more exports for developing economies
"The Sourcing Report is an important component of the Kearny Alliance's Developing Country Export Assistance Program," Boome said. "Additionally, each supplier featured in the Report has a website on Global Sources Online.

"Together, the report and the website help qualified suppliers reach buyers worldwide - and give buyers access to quality suppliers. Orders generated provide jobs for workers, enable them to support their families and improve their livelihood: That to us is Aid through Trade in action."
