Indie Film "The Monument" Stirs Excitement Amongst College Audiences

Doug Cannon, college senior and Ancient Gray founder, turns heads with his new independent film "The Monument". With his unorthodox approach and visionary concepts, Cannon decided to take his own direction in shooting this thirty minute short.

Needing to fulfill an internship at the University of Delaware, Cannon noticed limited options based off of the lack of movie production houses in his vicinity and the growing influx of applicants.

"I had applied to numerous places, a couple of places in Philadelphia, film agencies and things like that," Cannon says. "Nothing was panning out because everyone is going for it."

"The Monument" was the result from this frustration. Based on the scenario of a second Civil War in the United States, the film focuses on a journalist who's caught between a choice to seek vengeance or preservation. Entirely filmed in New Castle, De, Cannon financed "The Monument" out of pocket for a mere $1,000. The movie has been turning heads with its slick directing and fantastic visuals, specifically the severe chemical burns on the protagonist's face.

Lead actor Thato Dadson is himself a director and also a host of entertainment show WHO?MAG TV, a former Spark Weekly model, and The Monument's co-producer. Dadson plays the disfigured character Adam, who was a journalist before the war broke out. Dadson's last stint as an actor came in the romantic comedy "Just Wright" with Queen Latifah and Common.

The film's trailer and a donation option will soon be available via kickstarter.com. Afterwards, he will submit "The Monument" to various film festivals including Sundance
