Inside Sports producer Mark McClure stated today that they are close to an agreement that would bring former ESPN NFL analyst and NFL quarterback Sean Salisbury to the sports comedy talk show. Details between both parties are being worked out and an announcement of Salisbury joining the cast could be made as early as Friday.

Salisbury's NFL career spanned 10 years as a member of the Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts, Minnesota Vikings, San Diego Chargers and Houston Oilers. Salisbury broke into television after getting his start on the Comedy Central show BattleBots, and from there he went on to become a top NFL analyst for ESPN, appearing on SportsCenter and NFL Live several times a week, often battling with fellow analyst John Clayton on many football topics and providing the show with not only his extensive expertise, but no-holds barred opinions and analysis on players and teams alike.

In 2005 Salisbury was hired as a consultant for the remake of The Longest Yard. On the set, Sean taught Adam Sandler proper quarterback mechanics, cadences, and footwork. Sandler later offered Salisbury a role in the 2006 film, The Benchwarmers where he displayed his comedic wit and big screen acting abilities.

In 2006, Salisbury began broadcasting on ESPN Radio 1000 Chicago with Steve Rosenbloom, while also doing guest spots on the ESPN Classic comedy program Cheap Seats, where he provided his signature breakdowns of the action in a more comedic manner.

"Sean is an amazing talent that you rarely see in sports commentators and former athletes who break into television. He has an encyclopedia knowledge of sports, no question, but the way he delivers his opinions and debates are second to none. When he believes he is right on a topic, God help the person he is debating with, just ask Skip Bayless or John Clayton. But more than that, what Sean brings to Inside Sports; News You Can Almost Trust is an amazing comedic wit and delivery that is on par with what Jon Stewart brings to the Daily Show. Stewart is a master at skewering politicians and the news that surrounds them and I am 110% confident that Salisbury will provide the same talent when it comes to the world of sports news and all that surrounds it," McClure stated.

McClure expects to make an announcement at the end of this week, but no later than Monday.
