Intego Discovers New Fake Flash Player 'SilverInstaller' That Installs PUA/PUP
Sophisticated, but seemingly harmless, installer lurks
Seattle, WA, October 19, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Intego, the first in Mac security software, has today discovered a new fake Flash player installer labeled 'SilverInstaller', that uses familiar methods to trick the user into downloading it onto their computer. Intego researchers observed that the installer, when clicked, downloads a file named "FlashPlayer_01.30.pkg" that looks like a generic package file. Once the package is opened, it shows "Install SilverInstaller" which seems to install other content that do not happen to appear after installation is complete.
In its current form the installer is already more sophisticated than other known installers encountered in the past, and Intego researchers are watching how this installer evolves. Learn more about how to protect your Mac from this and other malware at the Intego Mac Security Blog.
