InterContinental Asiana Saigon Flicks The Switches Off For Earth Hour 2014
This is the fourth consecutive year the hotel and residences joins this programme
Online, March 30, 2014 (Newswire.com) - InterContinental Asiana Saigon and InterContinental Asiana Saigon Residences will flick the light switches off throughout their properties, leaving the hotels and residential facilities in darkness for an hour from 8:30pm local time, in line with our commitment to take part in Earth Hour - the world's largest global climate change event.
On March 29, Earth Hour will return when InterContinental Asiana Saigon and InterContinental Asiana Saigon Residences participate by turning the lights off at all its public areas and restaurants. Candles will be used during that one hour, and guests and tenants are encouraged to join in the cause to help save the planet. The Kumho Office Tower, also part of the complex, is recommended to do the same.
This will be the fourth consecutive year InterContinental Asiana Saigon and InterContinental Asiana Saigon Residences flick the light switches off throughout its properties located at the corner of Hai Ba Trung Street and Le Duan Boulevard and at the corner of Nguyen Du and Le Van Huu, respectively, in response to the annual Earth Hour campaign. The initiative will see the hotel and the residences save an estimated 150 KWH (540 Mega Joules) in the hour of zero-power.
According to Mr. James Young, General Manager of InterContinental Asiana Saigon, "Earth Hour is a global event made possible by conscientious people, in more than 7,000 cities and towns worldwide, turning lights off locally. It is a global call to action that engages a massive mainstream community to tackle environmental issues. It is a call to stand up, to take responsibility, to get involved and lead the way towards a sustainable future. It is being hailed as the biggest ever environmental awareness movement. More importantly, it highlights a commitment from IHG towards the conversation of water and energy. It has always been a priority at IHG. However, Earth Hour also reminds us to always do more - small things like flicking light switches off when we leave rooms, turning computers off overnight, printing on recycled paper and so on."
Earth Hour, which has become a global initiative, had its genesis in Sydney, Australia as an awareness effort in 2007, when more than two million homes, businesses and landmarks, shut their lights off in the name of energy conservation.
