South Central Los Angeles Ministry Project was founded in the wake of the civil unrest of 1992. Eight congregations of Catholic Sisters came together to survey the neighborhood and perform a thorough needs assessment in South Central Los Angeles. What they found lacking were parent education and English programs for the Latina/o immigrant community, especially with childcare offered on-site. Today, South Central LAMP is a community-based nonprofit organization, offering educational services and family advocacy to over 300 individuals per year.
