International Society of Six Sigma Professionals Receives Non-Profit Status

Relaunched Organization Promotes Growth of Six Sigma Methodology
International Society of Six Sigma Professionals

The International Society of Six Sigma Professionals (ISSSP), the leading organization promoting the high standards of Lean Six Sigma, has officially been recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(6) non-profit organization.

Relaunched as a non-profit organization, ISSSP’s overall mission is to bring together Lean Six Sigma professionals from all over the world. Originally founded in 1997, the organization strives to foster the growth of the methodology and promote the best practices of the industry.

The non-profit designation provides us with opportunities that might not have been possible as a 'for-profit' organization. Our community includes young professionals, established practitioners, non-profit organizations, and large conglomerates, so while it will be challenging to bring such a diverse group together, it will be worth it to help advance the profession for future generations.

Peter Peterka, Chairman of the Board

Peter Peterka, Chairman of the Board for ISSSP, wants the organization to be a resource for certified individuals, training organizations, and students who are just beginning their Lean Six Sigma career path. “The non-profit designation provides us with opportunities that might not have been possible as a ‘for-profit’ organization,” he said. “Our community includes young professionals, established practitioners, non-profit organizations, and large conglomerates, so while it will be challenging to bring such a diverse group together, it will be worth it to help advance the profession for future generations.”

In addition to Peterka, there are two additional board members, Alan Hulme-Lowe and Dr. Lepora Menefee. There will also be several committees that will lead the charge on shaping the mission of the organization.

The organization is a rich educational resource for its members, providing past presentations, white papers, case studies and webinars by leading Six Sigma experts and renowned leaders, such as Jack Welch, Stephen Covey, and James McNerney.
