World renowned Remo HealthRHYTHMS® Group Empowerment Drumming Basic facilitation training program and the transformational Adolescent Protocol Training will be offered in St. Louis, August 10-13, 2014. These trainings include cutting-edge information on mind-body medicine techniques for facilitating research-based protocols using group drumming for health outcomes. With the societal and financial cost of juvenile rehabilitation impacting communities around our nation, perhaps some of the best news is that HealthRHYTHMS has positively impacted juvenile rehabilitation.

Remo, Inc., based in Valencia, California, provides research, training, articles, instruments, and programs pertaining to the use of group drumming in hospitals for integrative medicine, in schools for reducing stress and achieving better academic outcomes and in corporations for employee wellness and teambuilding, and for community and intergenerational events.

"The versatility and universality of HealthRHYTHMS has made it possible to bring the protocol to such a wide variety of on and off-campus populations. We have facilitated HealthRHYTHMS-based programs for our faculty/staff teambuilding; Youthbuild Leadership Program, Meridian Village Alzheimer's Care, as well as our College for Life/students with special needs program. HealthRHYTHMS never fails to "break down walls" and bring connection, interaction and positive energy."

Peter, Hussey

The evidence-based one-hour HealthRHYTHMS protocol integrates group drumming with proven health strategies to support individuals in their quest for well-being. The HealthRHYTHMS Adolescent Protocol, a derivative of the original program, is a specific curriculum for at-risk populations which has been researched in a juvenile rehabilitation environment. Research demonstrated improvements in school/work role performance, self-esteem and behavior toward others and a decrease in depression, anger and interpersonal problems. The program is currently being used in Central Ohio through a collaboration with the Central Ohio Symphony to facilitate better outcomes in juvenile court. "Youth that graduate from the program have abstained from drug use, improved school and home behaviors, and satisfied court requirements." Kennth J. Spicer, Judge (Delaware County Probate/Juvenile Court)

Six supporting research studies have been published since neurologist, Barry Bittman, MD led a renowned research team in the first biological study on the effects of group drumming in 2000.  Published in The Journal of Alternative Therapies, this study showed a significant increase in NK (Natural Killer) cells, circulating white blood cells that seek out and destroy cancer and virally infected cells, after the one hour drumming protocol.  Featured as an expert guest on CNN Headline News, Dr. Bittman spoke about his study published in Advances in Mind-Body Medicine (2003) on the use of the HealthRHYTHMS group drumming protocol for long term care workers. The study indicated it improved mood, reduced burnout, and resulted in significant economic savings due to the actual 21.8% staff turn-over reduction experienced.

Peter Hussey, Associate Professor of Music/Percussion at Lewis and Clark Community College, is a HealthRHYHMS trained facilitator. “The versatility and universality of HealthRHYTHMS has made it possible to bring the protocol to such a wide variety of on and off-campus populations. We have facilitated HealthRHYTHMS-based programs for our faculty/staff teambuilding; Youthbuild Leadership Program, Meridian Village Alzheimer’s Care, as well as our College for Life/students with special needs program.
