IPFonline Launches 'Renewable Energy India Forum' To Showcase The Potential Of Renewable Energy Sources In India

New Delhi, 21st September, 2010: IPFonline Limited (IPF), one of India's most acclaimed trade information and service provider of Industrial and Engineering Products today announced the launch of Renewable Energy India Forum (REIF).

IPFonline Limited (IPF), one of India's most acclaimed trade information and service provider of Industrial and Engineering Products today announced the launch of Renewable Energy India Forum (REIF). The vision behind REIF is to provide a platform for showcasing the promotion of renewable energy in India and elsewhere, by showcasing the latest products (and processes) in renewable energy, thus developing the biggest online cluster for the sector in the world.

Marking the beginning of this pioneering effort, Renewable Energy India Forum hosted their first conference today devoted to 'Solar Energy' at The LaLit in New Delhi and will continue till 22nd September, 2010. This event will be followed by similar conventions on Wind, Bio-Energy and Hydropower respectively, spanned across FY 10-11.

The objective of the 'Solar 2010' conference & exhibition organised under the Renewable Energy India Forum was to focus on the challenging issues and opportunities available in the country for Solar Energy. The first day of the conference witnessed leading Solar Energy Experts, Industry Leaders, Private & Govt. Financial Institutions, Technology Experts and Nodal Agencies like Shri. Bibek Bandyopadhyay, Advisor & Head, Solar Energy Centre, MNRE; Shri N. Bangara Raju, VC & MD, NEDCAP; Mr. Jason Donovan, First Secretary, Energy, US Embassy; Mr. Busso von Alvensleben, Indo-German Development Cooperation in the Energy Sector; Mr. Rajnish Sapra, CFO, Acciona Energy India; Shri N Balasuramanian, CMD, SIDBI; Mr. S K Hazra, M.D, NVD Solar Limited; Dr. Debajit Palit -TERI exchange their views, knowledge and expertise in the solar energy sector. Issues like financial feasibility and technical gullibility's of solar power production, analysis of the of the Solar Equipment Manufacturing in India aligned to its global counterparts, and evaluation of required level of skilled manpower development to support the process was discussed

IPFonline since its inception has been working closely with small and medium enterprises across the manufacturing sector. With the development of renewable energy sector, there have been many innovative inventions on energy efficient and environmental friendly products. IPFonline's vision for the introduction of the Renewable Energy India Forum is to create awareness and drive demand by supporting the product innovations in this segment. To cite a few examples solar air conditioners, ...................are some of the products with low awareness but high potential.

Commenting on the initiative Mr. Linus Lobo, COO, IPFonline limited said, "A parallel utilization of renewable resources like solar, wind, bio-mass along with conventional energy is necessary to meet the current need- gap for energy. At the same time there is a huge untapped market for products harnessing renewable energy which is silently growing in our own backyard. The objective for creation of Renewable Energy India Forum Energy is to bring forth and support ideas and innovations in a focussed manner and thereby ultimately contribute to catalysing the shift to clean green living. Solar 2010 marks our first step towards this progressive effort and we hope to achieve successful results in the coming years."

Some facts:

With the alarming rise in the consumption of energy in the country, India is increasingly dependent on fossil fuels such as coal and oil & gas. But with the global rising prices of oil and gas and potential shortages in future lead to concerns about the security of energy supply, which is critical for sustainable economic growth. Simultaneously, deploying natural resources like fossil fuels are a major concern for environmental issues universally. Thus it is critical at this juncture to explore new avenues of energy production and promote the distinct advantages of renewable energy. Certain key factors indicating vast opportunity for exploitation of renewable energy sources for power generation in India are:

• As against the estimated 80000 MW renewable energy based grid connected power generation potential in the country, the realized installed capacity is only about 6000 MW.
• The renewable energy based power generation capacity presently constitutes only 5% of the total installed capacity in the country.
• The Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources is aiming to achieve up to 10% of additional installed capacity to be set up till 2012 to come from renewable energy sources.
• India is endowed with enormous solar energy potential. About 5,000 trillion kWh per year energy is incident over India's land area with most parts receiving 4-7 kWh per sq. m per day. Hence both technology routes for conversion of solar radiation into heat and electricity, namely, solar thermal and solar photovoltaics, can effectively be harnessed providing huge scalability for solar in India.

About Renewable Energy India Forum (REIF)

The Renewable Energy India Forum (REIF) aspire to be an enabler for proactive dialogue to build up national cooperation and encourage innovative stakeholder partnerships aimed at investments in renewable energy for productive uses. It will also help in identifying policy issues, institutional frameworks and successful initiatives and promote projects aimed at increasing usage of modern and sustainable energy services based on renewable energy in the country and later, across the world. Renewable Energy India Forum has slated four key conferences on SOLAR, WIND, BIO-ENERGY and HYDROPOWER for the calendar year 2010-2011.
