Ireland's Relationship Secrets Revealed by lastminute.com
Online, April 7, 2010 (Newswire.com) - Dublin, Ireland, April 7h 2010-- As travel and lifestyle website lastminute.com launches its sale on 'Top Secret Hotels', it uncovers some of the secrets people in Ireland keep when it comes to relationships. Unlike some of us, numbers don't lie, and the survey of 440 people has yielded some surprising results.
We've always been a bit complicated in matters of the heart. For example, despite the fact that 1 in 3 admitted to cheating on their partners, 85% believe that marriages should be monogamous. A whopping 71% think that cheating in Ireland is commonplace with 1 in 3 being unfaithful on a trip abroad. It gets better (or worse, depending on whether you're an Ashley or a Cheryl): almost 4 out of 10 people in a relationship have 'sexted' a third party (38%).
On a more positive note, 7 in 10 who have cheated say that they regret it...and presumably not just because their car got a going-over with a golf club. Other secrets uncovered include:
70% of 18-24 year olds send explicit texts on the sly
1 in 5 have had a secret hotel rendezvous
Almost 1 in 5 cheaters were married
55% of those in a relationship have had a secret fantasy they've never revealed to their partner
lastminute.com's sale on the website's 'Top Secret Hotels' offers up to 50% off 4-star and 5-star hotels for online bookings made between 8th April and 3rd May 2010. The offer applies to a range of hotels including London, Barcelona, Rome, Paris, Venice, Amsterdam, Istanbul, Dubai, Belfast and Dublin. Here's the twist: due to the generosity of the discounts the participating hotels are not named until the booking is completed.
This might be a good time for women in particular to take a trip with their partners and avail of this deal. According to the survey, men are more likely to cheat on holidays than women with a whopping 44% of men admitting to it, compared to 27% of women. Singletons should note that 64% surveyed have had a holiday romance, and, encouragingly, 33% of over 55-year-olds surveyed have had a dalliance while on holidays.
On the celebrity side of things, Tiger Woods' wife Elin Nordegren got the most love, with 28% of those surveyed saying that they sympathised with her the most. She was followed in descending order by Cheryl Cole, Toni Terry and Mark Owen's wife, Emma.
Barry Hand, marketing manager of lastminute.com in Ireland said: "Holidays and hotel visits are a powerful aphrodisiac, so it's not surprising to see the effect they have on some Irish holidaymakers. At lastminute.com we're not big on relationship advice and we can't prevent infidelity, but we do believe that couples should spend time together, and that there's never a bad time to book a romantic getaway with your partner."
