It's Showtime! London Glams Up for 2013 With a Lineup of Fierce Entertainment Highlights

London is one of the world's leading entertainment capitals, and the city promises to showcase a wide variety of options for its glittering calendar of events for 2013.

All eyes were on London during the past two years when it comes to big media-worthy events. Consider the lineup thus far: the royal marriage of Prince William to Catherine Middleton; the Games of the XXX Olympiad; and the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. With such an impressive roster of showstopping ceremonies, the city definitely has to work hard in 2013 to step up its game in the field of presenting entertainment events. Luckily, the posh European city is going to start with a fierce splash this year - a bold preview of good things to come in the months ahead.

Cabaret - mixing burlesque, comedy, song, dance and plenty of sauce - is a growing trend in London, and seems to be showing off the cheesy rep that the term suggests. This flamboyant subculture in the London scene is set to make itself heard in the next twelve months, picking up where the capital's showmanship of the past year left off. Many top entertainment moguls in the business have spoken positively of incorporating cabaret into the swinging nightlife of London. Paul Martin, creator and producer of this year's London Cabaret Awards, has commented, "Cabaret is interactive and deals in spontaneity and that's really exciting for an audience. More and more bars and restaurants are looking to give customers reasons to stay out longer and so little stages and pianos are popping up in venues all over the capital."

Indeed, the trend for this turn-of-the-century form of entertainment has garnered strong support not just from event insiders, but also the hordes of night owls and partyphiles looking for something edgy and stylish to shake things up on their social calendar. Chaz Royal, the Burlesque Festival organiser and pioneer in London, agrees that the eclectic art form is emerging from the wilderness again. Says Royal, "Burlesque has come in and out of the mainstream for 150 years. People enjoy the novelty and sheer glamour with some old-fashioned saucy entertainment. And every year we raise the bar."

That raised bar will certainly be ridden in more ways than one, given the acrobatic skills of some gorgeous and gamine cabaret dancers working in the British metropolis. Also, such dancers defintely won't go unnoticed as the London Cabaret Awards starts in February, honouring the most eye-catching and finest performers in the scene. And be assured that the city has plenty more up to present. From legacy events during the Olympics, showing that its 2012's passion lives on, to festivals, music, food, comedians, and, above all, fun, 2013 is where it's at.
