It's Volunteer Appreciation Month!
March was volunteer appreciation month for both Remi and Friendship Trays. As a thank you to all the wonderful volunteers, Remi held a luncheon and Friendship Trays held a dinner.
Online, March 25, 2013 (Newswire.com) - During the month of March, both Remi and Friendship Trays appreciated their volunteers, one with a luncheon and the other with a dinner. Remi held their 2nd Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, a fajita bar catered by Chef's Catering, as a thank you to all the wonderful employees who deliver meals on behalf of Friendship Trays. This year, we also had a special guest visit - Lani Lawrence, Volunteer Coordinator at Friendship Trays. Lani was kind enough to attend Remi's luncheon and briefly speak about the independent, non-profit organization.
For those of you who don't know, Friendship Trays was started in 1976 in five Elizabeth neighborhood churches as the Meals on Wheels of Charlotte-Mecklenburg. Ever since, the non-profit has been delivering healthy and diet-specific meals to recipients in the Charlotte, NC area who, for whatever reason, are unable to prepare their own meals. Most recipients live on less than $15,000 a year and have medical issues to deal with on a daily basis. Friendship Trays works on referrals from doctors and social workers and is completely dependent upon donations and the volunteers who package and deliver meals to over 90 routes throughout Mecklenburg County.
On March 21st, Friendship Trays held the annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at their facility on Distribution Street in Charlotte. During the dinner, catered by Friendship Trays, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 years of service awards were given out. One of Friendship Trays' motto is "What do we live for if it is not to make life less difficult for each other?" by George Eliot. That motto is quite fitting and was made very obvious by the adoration and dedication of the volunteers who won awards and attended the dinner.
